A Publishing Home for Independent Voices

Scott Family Publishing is an independent publishing initiative built around the belief that meaningful stories, original ideas, and community knowledge deserve a place in the world.

Our work extends beyond a single author or subject. We support a growing collection of books and creative projects that reflect different experiences, perspectives, and forms of expression. From personal narratives and lived experience to educational resources, art, and community-based research, we aim to help ideas reach readers who can learn from them, connect with them, and carry them forward.

We see publishing as more than producing a finished book. It is an opportunity to preserve stories, recognize creativity, share knowledge, and bring overlooked voices into wider conversations.

More Than Books.
A Place for Stories to Live.

Scott Family Publishing creates space for authors, families, artists, educators, and community researchers to share their knowledge, experiences, and imagination.

We are building a publishing platform that values independent creativity, lived experience, family stories, educational ideas, and community knowledge. Our goal is to help authors and contributors develop their work, share their perspectives, and connect with audiences who value thoughtful, meaningful content.

Every project begins with an idea worth exploring. Together, those ideas can become a growing body of work that reflects the voices and experiences of the people who create it.

PEOPLE BEHIND THE WORK

Meet Aaron Scott

My name is Aaron Scott. At fourteen, I became Wisconsin DOC number 461771. That number followed me until my release on November 12, 2025. In my early twenties, while in solitary confinement, I taught myself to read. Today, I have completed my first memoir, Foster Boy, and established Scott Family Publishing to make room for stories beyond my own.

I am a Black multidisciplinary artist, writer, husband, and father, born on Chicago’s South Side and based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Foster care separated me from my family at seven. My work returns to the boy inside those experiences: wanting his mama, making people laugh, trying to get his brother’s attention. I want people to understand who he was before deciding what his behavior meant.

Writing anchors my practice, which includes sketches, recorded storytelling, and collaborative experiments with photographs and clothing. Since coming home, I have been exploring tools and materials I could not access inside. I work from remembered conversations, images, and everyday details. When my wife and I tell a story together, our memories do not always match. I make room for that exchange, for humor, and for what neither of us can recover.

For years, other people assembled records about me. Now I am deciding how my experiences take shape and inviting others to do the same. Through Scott Family Publishing, I am building a home for independent writing, art, and shared knowledge, including work by people affected by incarceration.

My audience includes Black boys navigating foster care and confinement, their families, and people with power over their lives. I want my work to challenge the habit of treating a child’s record as his whole identity. I am interested in what becomes possible when people can tell their stories and help create the spaces where those stories belong.
